The History of Silver Dollar Values - Part 2

Today, a popular dollar in circulation is the Sacagawea dollar, which was authorized by the United States Congress in 1997 due to the expected depletion of the supply of the Anthony dollar, which was last minted in 1981. However, the Sacagawea dollar was prevented from being widely circulated because on the government decided not to eliminate the United States one-dollar bill. After the 2001 minting, the United States Mint decreased the production of Sacagawea dollars greatly, reporting a sufficient inventory. The said dollar, as of two years ago, is still being minted for coin collectors but remains uncirculated since production was stopped in 2001.

As of last year, 2007, the United States of America still does not widely use dollar coins or silver dollars in commerce; the only exceptions to this are in vending machines for rides on public transit, at some casinos that allow dollar coins in slot machines, and pay and display machines (although not all) and the United States Postal Service stamp vending machines, which use dollar coins as change. Silver dollar values can be concluded to be popular only among coin collectors, and not in the real world where they no longer enjoy wide circulation. Coin collection is one of the most revered kinds of collection hobby the world over.
